Did you know that the Crying Stone is one of the first attractions that usher a visitor into Kakamega County? Referred to as Ikhongo Murwe in the Luhya dialect, it is an 8 metre high monolithic boulder with a stone that sits like a small head atop. Found high on a ridge in Ilesi, the Crying Stone is revered by the people of Kakamega. Legend has it that when the stone cries the people will enjoy bountiful harvests, but when it dries drought and hardship are likely to follow.
