Fifth Draft

Fifth Draft is an Anthology of Poetry and Prose. Gathoni Kinuthia tells us more about why she loved this #KeRead – and where you can purchase it at.

Fifth Draft is an anthology which will charm its way into your bookish heart. Its composition of seventeen stories and poems is a representation of a modern society with themes exploring humanity, family, politics and religion.

This collective is ideal for readers who are keen to explore new (-ish) writing from the East Africa region. The poems and prose are written to elicit emotions and proof of this is the instinctive provocation to think about the issues discussed. Mwangi Gituro sets the scene for readers with the poem Bless Me Father For I Have Sinned. Toilet Paper Thief by Mwende Ngao humorously tells of interdependency in perceived independency while Sky over Palestine by Kelvin Kaesa brings your attention to world politics and its failures. Most of the stories and poems in Fifth Draft were contemporary and familiar to me, the characters were well developed and went through situations that were relatable.

Other contributing writers aside from the few mentioned include, Euticus Mola, Rayhab Gachango, Atandi Anyona, Powell Omolo and Mtheto Kadoko Hara with an introduction from Zukiswa Wanner. I bought this book and had it delivered by The Magunga Bookstore
