This was a book that fascinated me when I read it in high school. My experience in boarding school from Class 4 had taught me to respect those in authority and reading this, I could not fathom how any student could be such a troublemaker or be at loggerheads with school authorities as well as ones own peers. Moses failed to get along with anyone, from the school guard, to the kitchen chef, to the class teacher and even his fellow students.
My notion while in boarding school was that students were compelled to behave with integrity and obey all the rules instructed by the administrative body, even when it was handed to us strictly. Being away from home, the thought of having my parents called in because of a disciplinary issue was the one thing I tried to avoid most. I always looked forward to the school holidays.
Moses in Trouble suggested to me that boys could easily break laws leading to endless accounts of punishments, while girls were shy and feared authority hence often abided by school rules and obeyed authoritative figures. I often wonder what impact this had on my world view growing up?
